about

French guitar player, born in 1951, died in 2002.
Christian Boulé played in various obscure French bands before becoming a peripheral member of the Gong family, featuring in Clearlight and with Steve Hillage.

In the summer of 1976 Boulé was asked by Steve Hillage, seduced by a demo that the guitarist had sent via Virgin, and in search of a "liner" to hold the guitar parts glissando in his group scene. The first concert of Steve Hillage Band is opening for Queen before 70,000 spectators in Hyde Park (London) in September 1976. The UK tour following is a huge success, followed by a trip to the United States in the first part of the Electric Light Orchestra. Hillage dissolved this first group, too bloated, in spring 1977.

The following summer, the Boule passes Brighton, where he lives at 22 Broad Street (the title of a piece of Musik Photo). He composed the material for a solo album, and also works with David Sinclair, of Caravan keyboardist. Back in France, he approach various record labels but only gets a polite refusal. It is with the help of Verdeaux he finally signed with Polydor. It records Photo Musik, with Verdeaux keyboards and production, as well as the American singer, born in the Bronx, Andy Slatin. It will sell modestly, about 5,000 copies, and will be no tour, Boulé starting again in the fall 1977 tour with a new formula of Steve Hillage Band.

Touring with Hillage are linked to the summer of 1978. He then recorded a second album. Verdeaux on keyboards on preparatory demos, but having left India at studio sessions, it is Jean-Philippe Rykiel, recommended by Tim Blake, replacing the disk. At its output, Boulé up a group stage, with the rhythm section of Andy Slatin more drive, Twink (from Here & Now) synths and Remo (vocals, guitar and flute). It can happen a week Campagne-Première in Paris and the first part of ... Steve Hillage on his tour 1979. Despite this, the album sold less well than the previous and the contract with Polydor is broken.

It will take until 1982 to discover a new disk Christian Boulé, and it will be 45 laps in Carrère, "Somebody". Despite the presence of Bernard Paganotti on bass and Laurent Thibault production is a much more commercial format. But despite a boost from RTL, which the disk will elect the week, it will be a flop. Following this failure he completely stop the music for several years.
